Osteoporosis

Osteoporosis or “ porous bone” is a disease of the bones that cause brittle bones and fractures. Pilates is a weight bearing exercise that will strengthen your bones without causing pain or damage.

An individualized exercise program is devised to develop core strength and to improve balance and gait, which will help to reduce the risk of falling. A safe program is designed to improve bone strength, back strength and posture with avoidance to Pilates exercises that are contra-indicated or detrimental for an individual with osteoporosis. Spinal flexion, spinal twists and certain leg movements should be avoided to reduce fractures. A carefully devised Pilates program can encourage new bone growth whilst increasing overall body strength and core strength.
